3D printable Cartridge Cases
February 16, 2013
3D printable Cartridge Cases How long have we waited for this? Get your hands on a 3D Printer and print out the cartridge case! Posted by Computer Nerd Kev at groups.google.com "I just put online a project I've been playing with for some time. It's a Vectrex cartridge printable using one of those new fangled 3D printer things everyone's talking about. The details are mostly on that page. With a bit of luck this might help a small few of the people suffering from the lack of new cartridge cases being made. I'm contemplating selling small quantities as well, so feel free to show your interest. Postage will be from Australia, I'll have to think about the pricing, might post back." Here's the link to the 3D case: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:49302 Original posting here at groups.google.com

HELLHOLE by FuryUnlimited Sector-X IV becomes a reality! Hellhole will be released on August 11th at the Classic Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. Internet pre-orders will begin shipping on August 13th. Many of you will remember that Hellhole was announced years ago on my website, and subsequently canceled due to innovation fatigue ;) ...until now!

It won't work because the Vectrosis Spinner and button controls are together in one controller and plugged into one controller port. I am not adding in functionality for the above described abomination. You can play Hellhole with a standard controller as an alternative. Vectrex Timeline - What happened 30 years ago... ?
June 6, 2012

June 6, 1982
The Vectrex is displayed first time to the public at the Summer Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, USA. The first CES was held in June 1967 in New York City. It was a spinoff from the Chicago Music Show, which until then had served as the main event for exhibiting consumer electronics. The event had 17,500 attendees and over 100 exhibitors; the kickoff speaker was Motorola chairman Bob Galvin. From 1978 to 1994, CES was held twice each year: once in January in Las Vegas known as Winter Consumer Electronics Show (WCES) and once in June in Chicago, known as Summer Consumer Electronics Show. Come back to the VecNews, this series will be continued!

Vectrex Timeline - What happened 30 years ago... ?
May 6, 2012

May of 1982: Work is immediately started on other games such as the Vectrex original Cosmic Chasm. Conceptually designed by Jeff Corsiglia, and programmed by Bill Hawkins, this turned out to be the only game converted in to a coinop by the Cinematronics agreement. According to Bill, it only took him six weeks to do Cosmic Chasm (unlike the three months and 12 boxes of disks to do Rip Off) because while the rest of the programmers were out of town one weekend he stole two more drives from another programmer's setup. Somewhere along the line, it was decided that color overlays would be used. Overlays, which originated in coinops, served a multitude of purposes. In the early through late 70's, coinops were in black and white. If you wanted color, you would literally affix colored cellophane strips to the monitor screen, such as was done in Atari's Breakout or Taito's Space Invaders. Likewise, if the playfield was to be to complicated to draw (be it in detail, or a color problem) because of the graphics limitations of the time, overlays could be used to render permanent backgrounds or give ambiance. Such as in the asteroid backround in Atari's Asteroid Deluxe, or the stairwell in Cinematronic's Warrior. Other overlays would be on the protective plastic screen itself instead of the monitor, and add anything from exciting borders to game instructions. Come back to the VecNews, this series will be continued!

Vectrex at Digibarn Computer Museum
May 5, 2012

The DigiBarn Museum has a Vectrex page, including words on the artifact from its contributor, Ed Satterthwaite, who worked at Xerox PARC in the 70s and 80s. http://www.digibarn.com/collections/games/vectrex/
Comment from DigiBarn curator Bruce Damer: aren't these ultra retro cool, we think of the Vectrex as "the Blade Runner" machine!
